BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - Mandatory evacuation orders for three Southeast Texas counties have been lifted as the former Hurricane Gustav was downgraded to a tropical depression. The mandatory evacuation order for Jefferson, Orange and Hardin counties was lifted at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
That's according to Jefferson County Emergency Management Office spokeswoman Ocie Crosser in Beaumont. That means evacuees sheltered inland may return to their Southeast Texas homes.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami downgraded Gustav to a tropical depression early Tuesday as the center approached East Texas.
