Firefighters battled Winona house fire despite ammo going off in home

The fire was bad enough, but Smith County firefighters also had to dodge some bullets today. Around 9:30 am this morning, Tyler and Red Springs Fire Departments were sent to a house fire in Winona.

Making things worse, ammunition was reportedly in the house, going off because of the heat. After a few hours, the firefighters were able to get the fire under control.

It started around 9:30 am in the 1400 block of CR 353 just outside Winona.

Around ten units responded to the fire from Chapel Hill, Red Springs, and Winona.

The home is a total loss.
