'Alert Academy' in Big Sandy opened for evacuees

An Upshur County training academy has opened its doors for Gustav evacuees as well.

The Alert Academy in Big Sandy has opened its facilities up to shelter and feed evacuees.

Over 200 are already being housed, and the Academy is prepared to hold as many as 600.

Many of the guests had stayed at the Academy 3 years ago during Katrina and Rita, and actually called the Academy to see if the could return this time.

For many, it's a chance to ride out Gustav in familiar and friendly surroundings.

The evacuees will be housed in dorms and apartments located on the Academy campus.
