Gilmer Beats Jasper In State Championship Rematch

The last time Gilmer & Jasper met, it was historic. The Buckeyes won a 3A state finals shootout at SFA to claim their only championship, 49-47. That was four years ago, the current seniors were just eighth graders then. Buckeyes wide receiver Zach Jones was the water boy for that team.

"It was an amazing feeling," Jones said. "It kind of felt like I won, there on the sidelines. It was really exciting."

Now, it's 2008. Gilmer is back again in the Kickoff Classic, and Jasper makes their first appearance, but with a head coach who's very familiar with Rose Stadium. Thomas Brooks returns for the first time since he was the head coach of the John Tyler Lions.

"It's great to come back and be in a place I was familiar with," Brooks said. "I really enjoyed being here for two years, feels good to come back for the first ballgame.

Gilmer beat Jasper 56-28.
