Math expert says her book can help kids with math

The author of a series of children's books based on a family of pigs says the books can help students with math.

New York state author Amy Axelrod says she found the way to help kids read and learn math all at the same time.

Today, Axelrod played math games with South Ward Elementary students in Longview.

Her "Pigs Will Be Pigs" math books originated after she and her kids went on a hunt in their house in search of money.

"We were having a good time and feeling somewhat embarrassed by paying with all the coins that I called the kids a bunch of pigs and it stuck and then that led to a really good idea about writing a children's book about a family of pigs who hunted through their house for enough money to go out to eat," explained Axelrod.

You can find Axelrod's books in stores across East Texas and on
