Lindale home engulfed in flames, smoke

A home north of Lindale was completely engulfed in flames and smoke this morning, and a firefighter was treated on-scene for heat exhaustion.

The home is at 18755 U.S. Highway 69 across from Lindale Auto Glass. The home and business are both owned by Tommy Kirk, who was installing a windshield at the business when he smelled smoke, saw the house on fire, and called the fire department.

Kirk said that he tried to put the fire out with a garden hose while they waited on the fire department, but that it just "didn't happen."

Lindale, Mineola, and Dixie fire departments responded to the fire.

No one was injured in the fire, and no one was at home at the time of the fire. The Kirk family has four school-age children.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
