Kilgore College offering free shuttle service from Longview to campus

Kilgore College has come up with a way to help commuter students with the pain at the pump. They are offering a free shuttle service from Longview to campus. Today, KLTV 7 LaKecia Shockley went along for the ride.

Move over yellow school bus...the Kilgore Ranger Ride is coming through!

"Anybody that wants to have a ride to Kilgore gets a free ride to Kilgore," says Chris Craddock with Kilgore College.

Kilgore College and the East Texas Council of Governments are transporting students to campus and back. For the students, it's an opportunity to save money.

"I drive a Firebird which is not an economy car, so it would save me a lot in gas going back and forth," said Jacob Paulson.

Paulson is a freshman at Kilgore College from Georgia.

"As a student it's actually pretty good service. Out in Georgia, nothing like that was offered to any of the community places...It's pretty good for the students and saves us a little bit money so we could put towards tuition and books."

One student wouldn't make it to class if it wasn't for the Ranger Ride.

"Because of health conditions, I'm not able to drive, and my whole family works full time so you know I really just don't have a way to get here," said Christina Brown, a sophomore. "So without this I wouldn't be able to make it to college."

For freshman Danielle, the Ranger Ride not only gets her campus but it saves her family money too.

"I would have had my Mom bring me up here everyday, every class day so with the shuttle she just brings me to the Kilgore in Longview and I come over here on the shuttle."

It's a free ride that not only helps with the pain at the pump, but with beating the summer heat.

"I really like this bus it's nice and little and cool inside," laughed Sara Worchel.

Kilgore College plans to keep the shuttle moving all semester long.

Kilgore is also considering commuting students from Gladewater and White Oak to campus.
