Anderson County's first homicide of the year under investigation

It's the first homicide of the year in Anderson county, and authorities are asking for the public's help.

Wednesday night, the Anderson County Sheriff's Department says a family member found 81 year old Mary Waters dead inside her home. Waters, authorities say, has lived on County Road 363 for several years. KLTV 7's Molly Reuter just got back from Anderson County.

Mary Water's son, authorities say, found Waters' body with a deep cut to her throat.

Anderson county Sheriff Greg Taylor tells me Waters lived alone, and the home had no signs of forced entry, and no weapon was recovered.

Sheriff Taylor says Waters' family lives outside the county, so right now they are just trying to put together a timeline to figure out when Waters was last seen alive.

"Anytime an elderly person is the victim of a crime it is pretty distressing, and right now we can't figure out a motive that would generate such a crime, so it's just baffling right at this moment," Sheriff Taylor.

Sheriff Taylor also says they've been interviewing Waters' family and neighbors, hoping someone saw something. Of course authorities are asking if anyone knows something, to call them immediately.
