Deputies Closing in on an Arrest

The murder of a local Methodist pastor's wife has drawn comment, for the first time from leaders inside the denomination.

In an E-mail to Channel 7 today, the church says, "We are grieved that two young children have lost their mother at such a tender age. We stand with the people of Troup and the members of the First United Methodist Church as they also mourn this loss." Absent from the statement though, is any mention of Marla Tabb's husband, Reverand Mike Tabb.

Well wishers created a make shift memorial Wednesday at the corner of the Tabb's Troup home. Mourners dropped off flowers candles and a card. Inside the home, the beaten body of Marla Tabb was discovered on Monday evening by her husband.

Across the street, Troup Police sealed off the First United Methodist Church. No one was allowed to enter the sanctuary without a police escort.

Investigators are developing leads in the case. A source in the Smith County Sheriff's Department says they expect to make an arrest as early as Monday.
