Tyler ISD meeting tonight to decide on corporal punishment ban

A meeting is set tonight to debate whether an east Texas school district should get rid of corporal punishment.

As we told you yesterday on KLTV 7, Tyler ISD is considering dropping spanking as a disciplinary option.

Right now, teachers and principals can only use corporal punishment if they get approval from a student's parent.

The question has set off a lot of reaction from you on KLTV.com.

On our web poll, more than 1200 of you have weighed in, with 74% of you saying the school does have a right to spank your child.

26% disagree.

The TISD board meeting starts tonight at 7:00 pm at the Plyler Building.

We're sending a crew, and if the board makes a decision, we will update you tonight on KLTV.com and KLTV 7 News At 10:00 pm.
