Retailers score big on tax-free weekend

Huge crowds turned out for the sales tax holiday weekend, as East Texas retailers worked non-stop to keep up with demand.  For three days, the Longview Mall has been packed with shoppers taking advantage of tax free purchases.

"I wouldn't have bought a lot of the stuff I bought if it wasn't like half off," said White Oak shopper Megan Ramsey.

"Oh got some athletic shoes some ear rings some perfume," said Dedrick Ingram of Longview.

"Wow, has it been a rush?," said Longview Mall Retail Sales Manager Leah Garcia.  "I mean this is when all the real shop-a-holics come out the bargain lookers they're here."  Shoppers were after everything that didn't have anything extra attached and retailers provided more incentives.

"It's one of the busiest ones that I've been at of course there all busy, but it's been non-stop ever since Friday hit," said Longview Mall retailer Marcie Racicote.  It was more buying action that some had seen in years.  On average, shoppers saved $8.00 this weekend for every one hundred dollars they spent.
