NYC heroes lift bus off pregnant woman; baby saved

A 3-pound, 6-ounce baby is still listed in critical condition, a day after an accident that claimed the life of his mother.

Horrified bystanders banded together to lift a 5-ton school bus off the pregnant women.

Donnette Sanz, a traffic agent for the New York City police department, was walking across a Bronx street yesterday when she was struck by a van that pushed her in front of the bus.

After a crowd of people freed Sanz, doctors were able to save her son. But she was pronounced dead shortly after the baby's birth by emergency Caesarean section.

The van's driver was arrested on charges of criminally negligent homicide and driving without a license.
