Brett Michael Birdwell, who was arrested for the April 19th murders of Bennie and June Killingsworth of Longview, has been indicted on capital murder charges by a Gregg County grand jury.

Birdwell, 44, is accused of beating and stabbing the Killingsworths to death in their Longview home on Tryon Road.

Birdwell was arrested in May at his apartment on Golfcrest Drive in Longview. The arrest warrant documents stated that detectives linked him to a purchase made with a debit card belonging to one of the Killingsworths. The arrest came after a month-long investigation by the Gregg County Sheriff's Office.

Upon conviction, capital murder carries a punishment of life without parole or the death penalty.
