Friends, family and well-wishers turned out in Marshall Friday in a show of appreciation for another battalion put on active duty. By city resolution, it was declared Patriots Day at Marshall high school, in honor of the Texas Army National Guard 5th Battalion, which has been mobilized to active duty. The program included patriotic music and visiting dignitaries, and an opportunity for families to spend some last minute time together. The 5th has not been on active duty since the 1960's. Friday's event was a chance for families of the leaving soldiers to show their support. The battalion will be deployed on Sunday and provided security for chemical and biological depot's around the country. Deployment could last for a year.
