The boil water notice for the city of White Oak has been lifted.
After a sample of their water came back with coliform bacteria in it, officials had previously asked residents to boil their water before using it. Today, however, the water was tested again and city officials say that there was no sign of the bacteria.
Coliforms are the commonly used bacterial indicator of how sanitary water may be. In most cases, coliforms themselves are not the cause of sickness, but they are easy to culture and their presence often indicates that other pathogenic organisms may be in the water.
