The 2008 Republican National Convention will be held at Saint Paul's Xcel Energy Center from September 1-4, 2008.  Approximately 45,000 delegates, alternate delegates, volunteers, members of the media, and other guests are expected to attend.

Delegates will vote to nominate the Republican Party's candidates for president and vice president of the United States.  The presumptive Republican presidential nominee is Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), but he has not yet announced his vice presidential candidate.

Delegate positions were decided at the 2008 State Republican Convention held in Houston June 12-14, 2008.  Ninety-six national delegates and ninety-six alternate delegates were elected in congressional caucuses.  Forty-one at-large national delegates and forty-one alternate delegates were selected by the National Nominations Committee.

Smith County will be represented at the convention with more delegates and alternate delegates than ever before.  Tyler residents hold five of the eight positions.  The five individuals include delegates:  State Representative Leo Berman and Sharon Guthrie, and alternate delegates: Dianne Caron, Mary Schneider, and Mollie Herrington.  Lou Ann Berman, John and Marcia Daughtrey, and Sharon Emmert, all of Tyler, will be attending the convention as guests.

National electors were also elected at the state convention.  Each congressional district caucus selects one elector to represent them at the Electoral College.  Marcia Daughtrey (Tyler) was elected to represent Congressional District 1.

The following individuals were selected to represent Congressional District 1.
