Superintendent-to-be Meets Public-to-be

Tyler residents got their first chance to meet the city's next superintendent.

Dr. David Simmons shook hands with dozens of well wishers at the Tyler Museum of Art. This is only his fourth visit to East Texas. Currently, Dr. Simmons is in his 4th year as Superintendent of Texas City Schools.

While he is the only finalist for the top job at TISD, Simmons is still in the middle of a 21 day waiting period before the district can officially offer him the position.

"I'm optomistic that if I continue to be the candidate of choice, we'll take care of that on August the 8th, hopefully. I plan to be at work first thing on August the 12th."

The first day for school in Tyler is August 21st.
