Jenkins Stepping Up To Fill Corner

There is a new Dallas Cowboys star wearing the number 31. That is of course safety Roy Williams old number.

The new number 31 is Mike Jenkins.

The rookie cornerback signed with the team over the weekend. With Terence Newman's injury, it is Jenkins who stepped into his spot, working with the first team defense.

Roy Williams now wears number 38, the number he wore in college. Williams made that decision back in January.

Jenkins' teammates are quick to point out the young rookie's potential.

"This is one of the best players on the team right here," DeMarcus Ware, linebacker. "Even though he hasn't had a regular season game yet."

"This is my first time being in an NFL camp, it's pretty rough," Jenkins said. "Just signed and got out here with the guys so I'm having a little fun with it at the same time."

Cowboys Camp Headlines:

* Cowboys need all the help they can get with their cornerbacks. Another CB is injured. Alan Ball sprained his left ankle at practice this morning.

* The St. Petersburg times reporting the Cowboys are still very interested in a trade with Tampa Bay for quarterback Chris Simms. That if the Bucs will lower their asking price of a midround draft pick.

* Pending a physical, Terry Glenn will reportedly join the dolphins. Glenn was waived by the Cowboys last Friday.

Jackson is back for Lufkin.Jackson is back for Lufkin.

Like Longview, Lufkin is always talented. Before the Panthers begin District 12-6A action, they'll play a loaded East Texas schedule featuring the Lobos in week 1, followed by Nacogdoches and John Tyler. Normally a 7 and 4 campaign would be considered a success, but not in Panther nation. In fact, despite making the playoffs every year, Lufkin hasn't advanced past the first round since 2012.
