Teen Robs Lakeport Convenience Store

Police in Lakeport are looking for a robbery suspect who held up a convenience store, a robber just 13-years-old.  Police responded to the Conoco station around 8:00 p.m., Sunday in the 5,000 Block of Estes Parkway.

Witnesses say the juvenile waited until customers had left and the clerk was alone, before walking from behind the store and confronting the clerk with a handgun.  Witnesses say they recognized the boy and told police he was 13-years-old.  They also told police the teen calmly demanded cash, at one point aiming the gun right at the clerks face.  Area residents were astonished to hear the robbers age.

"That does bother me, it does worry me, you expect them to take some candy, not rob you of everything you've got," said Lakeport resident Linda Barnett.

"We watch the adults, but I wouldn't expect that from as kid, wouldn't expect that from a child," said Tiffany Langston.  The youth made his escape with and amount of cash around the back of the building, and police are still looking for him.  Many are wondering not only how a child gets a hold of a gun, but what's the motivation for robbery by a 13-year-old.

"I'm wondering what a child's doing needing that much money, what type of home life and what drugs he's on," said Barnett.  Police are looking for a young black male around 4'11" and 100 pounds. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Lakeport police, or the Gregg County Sheriff's Office.
