Wienerland Celebrates 40 Years Of Success

It's been a Tyler tradition for 40 years.  Wienerland, an independent restaurant in Tyler, has been open since 1968.  On their 40th anniversary Saturday, customers enjoyed a hot dog and drink special for only 89 cents.  There was also music and prizes.  The owner says the secret of their success has been to keep Wienerland in it's original style.

"I've watched people come through in the car seats, and now they're driving their cars with their babies in their car seats, and it's just become a Tyler icon," said owner David Pessink.  "To see something that's maintained the same system for 40 years and the same quality of food for 40 years, it's a mind-bottling thing."  The owner adds if everything goes right, he expects Wienerland to be around another 40 years.
