The Longview Police Department is saying goodbye to a long time devoted K-9 officer named Remo. Police dog Remo served the city for eight years before retiring in late 1998, and had amassed a number of commendations for bravery, even collecting a Purple Heart from being wounded in the line of duty. He was mainly used in tracking missing persons and fugitives, but also worked in the field with officers in dangerous situations with armed suspects. He succumbed to old age on Friday, passing away at the age of 14. He is being remembered as a true hero of the force. Remo was laid to rest at the Edwards family home.
