Tyler Hotels Offer Gas Friendly Vacation Options For East Texans

For the Passarella Family of Forney, poolside at the Holiday Inn Select in Tyler was the place to be this weekend.

"I'd love to take the kids to Sea World, but $4 a gallon, we just can't afford that," said Jennifer Passarella.  Her husband, David said once he found out about the hotel's "Splash Into Summer" special, they had to change their plans, even if it was just an hour away from home.  This weekend, the Passarellas checked-in at the hotel, just one of several in the City of Tyler offering families an escape from rising gas prices and air fares this vacation season.

"Where they might not be able to go to Florida, or somewhere that they would traditionally go, they can come here and have a mini vacation," said Rebecca McLaughlin.  McLaughlin is the director of sales at the Holiday Inn Select.  She said for a little more than $100 a night, a family of four can enjoy not just a room, but breakfast, toys for the kiddos, and movies by the pool each weekend.

"It's a nice little mini trip for the kids," said Jennifer Passarella.  "They get away, we get away."

"People can come from Nacogdoches, Lufkin, or Marshall, and they have a weekend with their family," said McLaughlin.  The Holiday Inn Select "Splash Into Summer" stay-cation special lasts through Labor Day.  The Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau is also offering families a chance to win $100 Visa gift cards if they take advantage of the specials.
