Former Lufkin Panther Kiel Dies In San Diego

Former Lufkin Panther Terrence Kiel has died in California.

San Diego Police said Kiel was killed when he was thrown from a car he was driving after leaving a party. A police spokesman said friends had tried to keep Kiel from driving home, and witnesses say he was driving the wrong way on the street.

Kiel was a second-round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers in 2003, after playing at Texas A&M. He was all-state at lufkin, but had several run-ins with the law including pleading guilty to drug charges, which led to his release from the Chargers in 2007.
