Longview's Andrews Released By Patriots

On Tuesday the New England Patriots announced the release of defensive back Willie Andrews of Longview.

Andrews was arrested Monday morning after allegedly pointing a gun at his girlfriend's head. Police say he is charged with illegal possession of a large capacity firearm and assault with a dangerous weapon. Andrews is being held without bail in a Massachusetts jail pending a dangerousness hearing on Thursday.

Monday's arrest was the second for the former Lobo in less than six months. In February, just two days after the Super Bowl, Andrews was arrested on a marijuana possession charge. In May, he admitted in court that there was enough evidence to convict him at trial but did not plead guilty.

Andrews was in his third-year with the Patriots after he was drafted by the team in 2006. In two seasons, he totaled one defensive tackle, 23 special teams tackles and returned four kickoffs for 149 yards.
