Marshall Man Arrested For Clark Murder

The Marshall Police Department has arrested Lawrence Demetrius Smith, 18, on June 27th, 2008 at a home on East Travis Street. Smith was arrested on an outstanding Texas Youth Commission warrant for abscond while on parole.

Smith was serving time in TYC on a charge of Burglary before being paroled. Following the arrest, facts were developed concerning the involvement of Smith in the February 4, 2008 homicide of Kenneth Wayne Clark, 52, of Marshall. Clark was found slumped over the steering wheel at the intersection of East Houston and Durel Street after neighbors heard several gunshots in the area.

Physical evidence also linked Smith to the homicide. Based on this information, MPD Detectives met with Harrison County District Attorney Joe Black and an arrest warrant was issued for Lawrence Demetrius Smith by County Court at Law Judge Jim Ammerman charging him with Murder.

Smith is currently being held in the Harrison County Jail pending arraignment on the charge of murder.
