Longview Sonic Giveaway And Random Acts Of Kindness

With rising fuel costs and higher grocery prices, it would be nice to get a few freebies now and again. One east Texas church is doing just that, giving away free meals to unsuspecting fast food customers.

KLTV 7's Lakecia Shockley has more on today's random acts of kindness. On this particular day at Sonic customers were treated a little different.

"I offered them money and she said this is on us and I said huh," said customer Marsha Crayton. "She said this church is giving a donation and I said wow, and I took my money back."

From 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, these customers got more than drinks and food.

They got it for free, all thanks to New Beginnings Baptist Church.

"With all the cost of living going up with gas and groceries and things, this is just a real easy way for us to help people out and encourage them," said Tim Hill, who is pastor at the church.

So, what's in it for the church?

"Just watching them be surprised, and come through and know that...somebody cared enough about me today just to surprise me."

And, boy were they surprised.

"We canceled your credit card and this is a donation from new beginning baptist church....oh excellent," said Lance Noll.

Some customers were speechless.

"I...don't know...It's crazy...It's like who does that, right? Yeah," laughs Chrissy, from Longview.

Some wanted to be greedy!

"It's New Beginnings, it's free...We should have ordered more food."

It was a surprise no one expected, but everyone appreciated.

"This is very surprising and very nice. It's a nice treat," said Betty Banks of Carthage.

New Beginnings Baptist Church says they're planning to have another random act of kindness in the coming weeks, maybe even at a gas station.
