Gregg County authorities have awarded the Humane Society of Northeast Texas 20 dogs and a cat that were seized last week after reports of animals cruelty.
KLTV 7's Lakecia Shockley has been following this story and has more tonight.
The pictures of the 20 dogs seized and a cat show it all.
"There were lesions on their skin," said Chris Kemper with Longview Animal Control. "Their eyes were gooey, it's hard to describe."
Longview Animal Control officers testifed on the horrible conditions of animals left at the home of Douglas and Caroline White.
As the Whites listened to testimony, authorites revealed pictures they took inside the couple's home.
"The carpet is covered in feces and urine stains on the door. They were at least two feet high. There were feces stains on the mattress. Clothes laying on the floor that had feces on them."
Patricia Sutton lives across the street from the White's home and she say the smell from their house was horrendous.
"I couldn't let my window up on the side because the smell comes in and I didn't want to smell that all day in a motor vehicle..so I just don't let my windows up."
Another neighbor we talked with didn't want her face on camera, but she defends the Whites.
"I don't say they were taken care of the best, but the people just got a heart of gold, and they try to give an animal a home that needs a home."
As for Caroline White, after the hearing she was handcuffed and arrested for violation of probation of evading arrest in a motor vehicle.
As for the animals seized, they are being nursed back to health in the custody of the Humane Society.
