Hotel Robbery Suspect Identified After Committing Suicide

Longview Police say David Cody Stewart, 29, of Nacogdoches shot himself after police spotted his red pick-up truck.

Sgt. Shaun Pendleton with the Longview Police Department said one of his officers noticed the suspect's truck near the Ramada Inn off Spur 63 shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday night.

When the officer saw Stewart, he was wearing the same clothes the suspected robber was captured wearing in surveillance video from the other hotels.  The officer asked him to raise his hands, but the suspect ran.  After a brief chase, police say a gun shot rang out.  Other officers arrived on the scene and found Stewart's body on the ground next to his truck.

Pendleton said none of the officers on scene fired their weapons.

Police in Tyler and Longview believe Stewart is responsible for robbing several hotels, including the Holiday Inn select on South Broadway in Tyler and the Best Western on Loop 281 in Longview.
