Smith County's low-risk jail facility has been experiencing difficulties with its water system due to a water leak for the last 24 - 48 hours, KLTV 7 has learned.
Plumbers are working on the problem now, according to Smith County Sheriff J.B. Smith. He says procedures are being followed to make sure the prisoners are provided with enough water.
Sheriff Smith also told KLTV 7 News that the problems with the jail stem from the age of the facility, and that it demonstrates Smith County's need for a new jail.
The facility was constructed in 1989, and is listed in the Smith County Long-Range Facility plan as in need of a roof replacement.
