Space Still Open In Tyler Kayaking Clinic

As part of the At Your Leisure Series, the City of Tyler Parks and Recreation Department is now registering for the upcoming Kayak Clinic to be held June 21.

The clinic will focus on:

  • The history of kayaking;
  • Safety on the water and rules to follow;
  • The essential basics for being prepared mentally;
  • The necessary gear;
  • Capsize and recovery basics; and,
  • Paddling Techniques.

The clinic is designed for ages 16 and up and will be taught by certified instructor, Jerry Cruse.  It will be held from 9:30 a.m. until noon at the Fun Forest Park Pool located at 900 W. Glenwood. 

Participants must have their own personal lifejacket.  A limited number of kayaks will be available thanks to the sponsorship provided by Gander Mountain and Simpson's Fitness and Adventure Sports. 

The cost of the camp is $25 per person and class size is limited.  To register, contact Debbie Isham, special events/recreation supervisor at (903) 531-1214.

    An East Texas family is hoping someone can provide answers for a relative who turned up missing over the weekend. Family members reported that Felisha Pearson, 29, of Longview disappeared on Sunday and has not been seen or heard from since. According to a police report, Pearson was staying at the hotel with another person, left and never returned. Police say she left her cell phone at the hotel.
