Tyler Police Investigators arrested its sixth suspect on Monday, June 16, 2008 in an on-going criminal investigation. All six suspects known to associate with a local street gang were charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, a First Degree Felony.
The investigation started on May 24, 2008, when a female victim was pushed to the ground and robbed of her wallet in the parking lot of Carmike Theaters, located at 7415 S. Broadway, around 3:00 p.m. The suspect fled on foot into an apartment complex and caught up to two other suspects waiting in a vehicle. The suspects drove to Food Fast, located at Old Bullard and Reick Rd. and used a stolen debit card from the victim to fill up their vehicle with gas. The suspects then drove to the North side of Tyler and used the stolen debit card at five other gas stations trading gas for money, until the card no longer worked.
On May 29, 2008, at 2:00 a.m., Tyler Police responded to a Home Invasion at 1206 S. Buckley. Several suspects forced their way into the residence when the door was opened and robbed the homeowner and friends at gunpoint. A shot was fired by one of the suspects during the commission of the robbery but no one was struck. The suspects took numerous electronic items, cash, and credit cards from the residence. The suspects then went to Wal-Mart Super Center, located on S. Broadway, at 6:00 a.m. and used a stolen credit card to purchase several electronic items. At 7:00 p.m. the suspects attempted to pawn several video game items at Game X Change that were stolen from the residence.
Investigators were able to obtain surveillance video from several locations that allowed them to identify the suspects. The suspects that were taken into custody and charged, as follows;
