Tyler Police Department has completed the nationwide 2008 Memorial Day Click It or Ticket (CIOT) campaign to increase seat belt use. During this 2-week period (May 17 till June 1) officers of the Tyler Police Department issued 251 citations for Seat belt violations. This included 18 for child restraint violations. There were also 14 arrests made and 112 citations for other violations.
A survey conducted ahead of the enforcement period determined that Tyler already had a 94% compliance rate. A post survey showed that compliance had increased to 96.7%, an increase of 2.7%.
This entire campaign was paid for with federal funds. This is Tyler's fifth year to be a participant in this enforcement campaign.
