They were putting up their dukes in Longview Saturday night, but it was all in good sport.
The Elks Lodge was hosting amateur boxing night, with fourteen fights taking place in the ring. The boxers, male and female, ranged from eight years old to twenty-two. They came from as far away as Houston and Shreveport to get in the ring tonight and get some high quality competition.
"It feels great," fifteen year-old Shreveport's Barry Dudley said. Dudley has qualified for the nationals. "It's great to go up against somebody I've never fought before."
"It's not too exciting," Longview's Markisha Mills said, "because you don't know how they fight, but it's fun. You just get to beat up on somebody."
Tonight's event was sponsored by the Elks Lodge, and the East Texas Boxing Club.
