Denver Broncos Player Helps North Tyler Community Project

A professional football player from East Texas is helping a community project in North Tyler.

Denver Broncos player Tim Crowder was at the Mel Rose Nursing Center Saturday, helping get the word out about services offered there.

Workers say it was opened with a vision to provide health services and community support... something Crowder said he's happy to come back home and help with.

"This is home, you know, I grew up in this neighborhood right around the corner and there's nothing like giving back to the community," said Crowder. "If I can help out the youth and get the youth involved, that's all I can try to do."

"Ernest Sterling, he had a dream," said Lisa Williams, with Mel Rose Nursing Center.  "A dream we're trying to keep alive. He had a vision to help take care of the community."

A wing of the nursing center is being dedicated in honor of the Ernest Sterling family. On Juneteenth there will be a carnival, garage sale, and free food available.
