Two overnight fires in Tyler have led to around $100,000 in combined damages, estimates the Tyler Fire Department.
Fire officials received a call at 3:24 am from the La Favorita Grocery Store at the intersection of Border & Wilson Streets in Tyler, saying smoke was pouring out of the store's roof.
Various crews were called to the store, and firefighters had to break the glass on the front door and use a chainsaw to cut a hole in the attic. Officials tell us they believe the fire started in the attic due to an electrical short. There was extensive smoke and fire damage, estimated at around $40,000.
The Tyler Fire Department also was called to the 2000 block of Robbins Street at around 1:52 am this morning, to reports of a house fire. When units arrived, they found a home on fire, with the origins of that fire also said to be in the attic due to an electrical short. There weren't any occupants in the home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Damages in that fire are estimated at around $60,000 in damages.
