Longview PD Sponsors Women's Handgun Safety Class

The Longview Police Department is hosting a Women's Handgun Safety handgun class on June 26th and 28th.

The purpose of the class in not primarily to show women how to shoot a handgun but is focused more on the safe handling and familiarization of a weapon.  The Texas legislature in its last session redefined when and where a handgun may be carried.

The first night class will be held at the Longview Police Department Roy Stone Training Center located at 302 West Cotton from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm on June 26th.  Handguns do not need to be brought on this night.   The second half of the program on June 28th will be held at the Longview Police Department firing range located on Swinging Bridge Road beginning at 9:00 am.

At that time a Longview Police Department firearms instructor will inspect each handgun and determine if it is safe to be fired.  Participants must furnish their own weapons and ammunition.

Minimum age to attend is 21 and the class size is limited to the first 15 who register.

Anyone interested in participating in this class should contact Officer Rebekah Martinez at 903.720.6838 or rmartinez@ci.longview.tx.us.
