The Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) is seeking talented Texas craft artisans working in various mediums to participate in the Texas Original program.
Created in 2006 by TCA to promote craft arts in Texas, Texas Original provides an opportunity for potential customers to purchase works by member artists online and learn about the artists and the cultural influences that shape their work. TCA markets the TxO program as a way to increase awareness of Texas' craft arts legacy. Only artisans who meet the highest business, quality and artistic standards are granted the title of Texas Original.
"We are fortunate to have such a vast array of accomplished artists right here in Texas and a state culture that entices many to visit and embrace our art and heritage," said Dr. Gary Gibbs, Executive Director of the Texas Commission on the Arts. "The Texas Original program engages both artists and art lovers through marketing efforts that promote the Texas craft industry as a whole."
The Texas Original program includes artists working with a variety of materials including glass, pottery, stone, metal, fiber, mixed media and more. The www.txoriginal.com Web site provides consumers a place to browse the handmade products and offers links directly to the artists' Web sites.
Interested Texas artists must submit and postmark their application for the Texas Original program by July 11, 2008. Please visit www.txoriginal.com for additional information and to download an application.
