UT Tyler Professors Named Editors of Nationally Recognized Journal

Dr. Peggy Gill, associate professor of educational leadership, and Dr. Wesley Hickey, assistant professor of educational leadership, at The University of Texas at Tyler, have been appointed as co-editors for the School Leadership Review Journal.


The School Leadership Review is a nationally refereed journal sponsored and published by the Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration. The journal is designed to offer scholarly inquiry and perspectives that advance the knowledge and understanding of school leadership from preparation to practice.


A faculty member for six years, Gill holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University. At UT Tyler, Gill teaches courses in educational leadership theory and practice. She also has served as the university's Tyler Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs director since 2005. The Tyler GEAR UP program was designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. The six-year renewable grant from the United States Department of Education totals $3.1 million. 

Hickey also holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership from SFA. A faculty member since 2004, he serves as coordinator of the superintendent program in the university's Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. For 12 years he worked in the Big Sandy Independent School District, serving as BSISD superintendent for four years.

Established in 1974, the Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration is a formal organization in the state to foster the achievement of objectives of the professorate as well as better communication among those who are preparing school administrators for public school service in Texas.

    Tyler police are looking for a theft suspect.  The theft occurred Saturday at 3300 Troup Highway.  The victim is described as a 85-year-old female. According to a report, the woman was followed into the restaurant by a Hispanic male. The male suspect then allegedly stole the victim's purse after she left it unattended.  A witness alerted the woman to the theft.
