Parents Of Infant Baby Who Died Are Arrested

The parents of a 3-month old Marshall baby who died last month are arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering a child.

Police say Antonio Dewayne Jackson and Yolanda Brown left the baby in the care of six children while they picked up a friend in Karnack.

The baby was asleep and the coulples 4-other children plus two of their friend's children were told to stay in bed.

The ages of the kids range from 2 to 9 years.

Police say during the hour or so the parents were gone the baby began to cry.

They say the children tried to quiet the baby but accidentally injured him, "what we found during our investigation is that the child was left in the care of 6 other children ranging from ages 2-9 years and they did not know the proper way to handle an infant therefore resulted in the child's death," says Captain Ted Wood with the Marshall police department.

An autopsy determined Antonio Dewayne Jackson, Jr died from a fractured skull and broken ribs.

The couples other children remain in the custody of child protective services.

If convicted of the 2nd degree felony charge the baby's parents could get up to 20-years in prison.
