TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Fresh corn. You can't beat it in the summer. But it's not always the easiest thing for some to eat off the cob. Well, necessity is the mother of invention, which is how this "Does It Work?" product was born.
The Good Grips Corn Stripper does what it sounds like. It's supposed to strip kernels off cobs with a quick and easy motion. Satisfaction guaranteed. We'll see.
The gadget has a good feel. A metal grate on one side, attached to a plastic snap-on cup on the other. The cup has nice, rubber, non-slip grips designed to keep the thing in your hands. For ergonomics, it gets an "A".
First, you have to get the corn ready. Shuck it and cut off the stems. Then it's time to strip.
Simply set the corn cob on it's large end. Put the Corn Stripper up on the narrow end of the corn and pull down. The corn strips right off and goes into the cup. Five or six times and the first cob is completely stripped of all its corn. After two cobs, the cup is full. It looks like it holds about 3/4 of a cup.
There's a good sized hole in the cup, so you just pour the corn out into a bowl and start stripping again.
It couldn't be easier. We got about three cups of corn off six stalks.
And cleaning was very easy, although I did cut myself. Watch it, this thing is sharp and certainly not for children.
"Does It Work?" The Corn Stripper from Good Grips, gets a "yes".
It cost $11.99 at Bed, Bath & Beyond.
