Tyler Police Sergeant Gets Big Thank You For Service

He has served and protected the public for more than three decades, and this afternoon a retiring police officer got a big thank you for his service.

Sergeant Herbet Hayter is retiring from the Tyler Police Department. He was hired back in 1975.

He's worn many hats including patrol, investigations, undercover, and most recently, supervised the traffic unit.

"The work was fun. We had a good time, a lot of good times here. I think in any case when you've worked this long in one place, what you miss the most is the people," said Sergeant Hayter.

The Sergeant has been recognized twice as superviser of the year, and was commended in 2005 for having a 30 year safe-driving bar.
