One person has been killed and another injured in a one-vehicle accident near Winona today.
The accident happened on FM 16, east of Winona. The car left the roadway at a high rate of speed, struck a bridge, and became stuck in some small trees.
Rescuers spent well over an hour getting the passenger out of the vehicle, all the while trying also to get access to the driver using the jaws of life.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was careflighted to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Troopers say empty alcohol containers were found in the car, though they don't know if that has any bearing on the cause of the accident.
