The City of Tyler Parks and Recreation have announced that Tyler City swimming pools will open on May 31. In past years, the pools have opened over the Memorial Day holiday; however, the pools will not open until May 31 this year due to staffing and low water temperatures.
"Because the weather has not been consistently warm, the water temperature in the pools is below normal," said Debbie Isham, recreation supervisor. "We would like to hold off opening until the temperature is more comfortable for swimming."
In addition to the water temperature, many of the trained lifeguards that work at the pools will still be attending school next week. This extended school schedule has limited the availability of pool staff members.
