Freedom Fighters: Tom Sheffield

Tom Sheffield was awarded three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and Two Bronze Stars for bravery in World War Two.

In the battle for Herken Forest, Germany, over 70,000 soldiers were killed. Every one of Sheffield's E and F Companies were either killed, wounded, or captured. Although Sheffield was badly wounded, he insists he was lucky.

Sheffield required three months of extensive plastic surgery and recuperation in England before returning to battle. Only a month later, he was again wounded but continued in combat. Within another month, Sheffield was again wounded. Tom Sheffield is one of five brothers who served in World War Two and Vietnam.
