Bates Delivers Inspirational Message To U.H. Athletes
While current Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Marcus Spears was speaking to athletes in Tyler, about 40 miles up the road in Gilmer, a former Cowboy was delivering a message of inspiration.
Bill Bates was the key note speaker of the Union Hill Bulldogs' Athletic Banquet in Gilmer Thursday night.
Bates spent 15 seasons, his entire career, with the Cowboys. He is currently a special teams coach for his children's team at a Florida school.
Being a leader for young people and an inspiration was the theme of Bates message.
"The experience is what it's all about and that's the best way I can explain the things that have happened in my life, why I'm here today, how I was able to accomplish the things I did with the Dallas Cowboys," Bates said. "Dreams came true for me and basically that is it. For the kids to be able to set goals, have dreams and never give up."
