Wednesday morning was a historical one for the City of Tyler.
The votes were canvassed, and Barbara Bass was officially sworn in as the mayor of Tyler during a special city council meeting.
Mayor Joey Seeber administered the oath as his final act as mayor. The swearing-in ceremony was the only item on the meeting agenda.
This marks the first female mayor in the City of Tyler's history. Bass takes over for Joey Seeber who has been the mayor since 2002.
The mayor administered oaths of office to Councilmen Donald Sanders and Chris Simons, who ran unopposed in the city election. Councilman Charles Alworth, who faced challenger Larry Meckley in the May 10 election, was out of town Wednesday morning. His oath of office will be administered at the May 28 City Council meeting.
Ms. Bass took the oath using a family Bible which her husband held.
