Longview taxpayers will soon be making up for an L.I.S.D. budget loss. The increased tax will help the Longview Independent School District offset a projected six and a half million dollar shortfall over the next year. Because of less state aid, the district is looking to make cuts in every area possible, from cutting athletic field improvements to refurbishing school rooms and lockers. 3.5 million dollars of the shortfall was targeted for teacher pay-raises and a raise for the next superintendent. The tax is expected to be raised by seven cents, up to the maximum limit allowed by the state.
