Local Worker Killed In Construction Accident

An East Texas construction worker has died following a worklift malfunction that trapped him between the lift and a ceiling beam Monday morning.

A Tyler police spokesman said 49-year-old Juan Manuel Barron of Tyler was crushed while working on a scissor lift while installing drywall at the Lane's Chapel United Methodist Church about 8:20 am today (Monday).

Police spokesman Don Martin said Barron was taken to a Tyler hospital, where he died. Martin said Barron was working for M&L Drywall of Dallas.

Federal investigators and OSHA are investigating the accident.
