Zipping Through East Texas

Perched atop the hills of Henderson County, you'll come face to face with the beauty that surrounds you. But to best way to experience all of this nature is to get up close and personal.
And there's only one way to do that -- A zip line tour. You can go from tree top to tree top in zip lines ... a thrill of a lifetime.

For the Shultz family, owners and operators of "New York, Yexas Zip Line Adventures", "zipping" is a way of life. Their 55 acres are home to more than 2,000 feet of cable and a 6-line zip lining course.

"We saw on tv a few of them in Costa Rica, where they originated. And we decided, hey, we got the land, we got the spot ... let's go ahead and bring one to East Texas," Carson Shutlz said.

We had to give it a shot. But before we hit the lines, it was safety first. Two safety lines, a helmet and a harness later, I was off to zipping school.

After a little practice, it seemed simple enough. But once on the platform, with a whole crew of veteran zippers, it was time to put my newly learned zipping skills to the test.

It was invigorating, to say the least.

"It makes you feel great. It's uplifting. You forget about everything while you're up there," Shultz said.

Then it was time for the grand finale -- the longest zip line in Texas. It's nearly a thousand feet long and more than a hundred feet high. The last run is one of the longest in the country. Unfortunately, it's the only way back to the ground.

"We can't put you in a skyscraper in this New York, but we can put you on the biggest zip line in the state," Shutlz said.

An adventure lover's gem right here in East Texas. So if you want to go zipping through the East Texas skies, go to our "Know More On 7" link and click on the story "Go Zip Texas"
