Armed Man Removed From Garage With Tear Gas

A SWAT situation in East Tyler has ended with officers taking a man into custody after firing tear gas into a garage. Police Sergeants confirmed to KLTV 7 the man arrested was 23-year-old Tucker Hambrecht.

The 4-hour long standoff started after Tyler Police received a report last night of a welfare concern at a home near the intersection of Tanglewood & Woodhaven.

Public Information Officer Don Martin said when officers arrived they spotted a car and attempted to check on Hambrecht when he took off. A short chase occurred in the area and wrapped back around to the home. Hambrecht entered the garage and during the standoff police say he fired a total of three shots.

Martin said SWAT members fired a stun grenade around 3:35a.m., then fired tear gas into the garage to take Hambrecht in to custody. He is currently in the Smith County Jail, charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle.
